A 22-year-old sales girl, Abigail Adams, on Wednesday appeared in a Kado Grade 1 Area Court for allegedly breaking a woman’s head following an argument.

Adams, who resides in Kpana village in Jabi, Abuja, is facing a charge of causing grievous hurt.

The prosecutor, Salisu Khaleel, said that Bose Adeola reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on Feb. 19.

Khaleel told the court that Adeola was discussing with her friend in her shop when the accused came in and interrupted their discussion.

According to him, the defendant rained insults on Adeola after she warned her to “mind her business” since she was not a part of the discussion.

“In the process of exchanging insults, the accused hit Adeola in the head with a pestle, causing the complainant to sustain grievous injuries,” he said.

Khaleel said that Adeola was rushed to Gwarimpa Hospital for treatment while the accused, who was arrested, confessed to committing the crime during police investigation.

According to the prosecutor, the crime is punishable under Section 245 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Mallam Abubakar Sadiq, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N20,000 with a reliable surety in like sum.

Sadiq said that the surety must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned hearing in the case till April 4. (NAN)
