Renowned professor of Law, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN) has accused president Muhammadu Buhari of fueling the crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by keeping silent on the many travails of the party.
The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) expressed this view during an interview session on Sunday. He stated that the Presidents aloofness regarding embattled chairman Oshiomhole’s travails was causing confusion within the ruling party.
In the interview with the daily Independent, Sagay advised President Buhari to take a definite decision on Oshiomhole’s status within the party.
According to Professor Sagay;
“Honestly, I think the President should stop being aloof on this very important matter. He should step in, call all the parties together, put his foot down and make clear the situation”.
If he really wants Oshiomhole to go, he has no option but to resign. If he doesn’t want him to resign, then he should tell all the other people to fall in behind him and let the party be united so as to focus on assisting his government deliver on his promises”.
I think the President is far too aloof over this matter. He really has to make a dynamic intervention now and make his position clear. Everybody respects him as President and so, if he firmly makes up his mind on the way to go, everybody will fall in line.”
The ruling party has been rocked by a leadership crisis since last week after a an Abuja High Court asked the Chairman to step aside. The Judgement was seen as a spill-over from the leadership tussle in Edo state between Oshiomhole and Governor Obaseki.
Further confusion had been generated when a Kano High Court allegedly re-installed the embattled party chairman.
