No fewer than 6, 420 out of the 7, 153 cattle recovered from suspected rustlers in Kano state have so far been returned to their rightful owners.
Alhaji Uba Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer of Kano State Government Committee on Recovery of Rustled Cattle, gave this indication in a press statement released in Kano on Saturday.
“Since the committee was established on 20th October, 2015, a total of 7,153 cattle were recovered, out of which 6,420 were returned to their rightful owners,” he said.
According to him, the animals were returned to over 2, 347 claimants that came from eight states including Adamawa, Bauchi, Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Sokoto and Zamfara.
Abdullahi also quoted the Committee Chairman who is also the state Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Sule-Garo, as saying the state government, in collaboration with the security agencies, had taken proactive measures to end cattle rustling in the state.
“The problem of cattle rustling, which was hitherto rampant in the state, will soon be over in view of proactive measures that have been put in place.
“We are also lucky that with the renewed commitment of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje in the fight against the menace, the issue will soon be over in the state,”Sule-Garo was quoted as saying. (NAN).
