Russia is engaged in negotiations with Facebook on the promotion and sale of Russian-made products, including fashion industry good, through Instagram.
Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president’s special representative on digital and technological development, made the announcement on Monday.
“The most interesting topic of our discussions with Facebook, which owns Instagram, is the promotion of Russian producers through the sales system.
“Today, the major part of sales in the fashion market is carried out via Instagram, as this is a huge trade platform.
“It is a challenge for us to learn to work with such global networking platforms, but we have to make this happen. Of course, it is a promising topic,’’ Peskov said, ahead of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
The official called support for small businesses and the establishment of a trading system via social networks “a tremendously important topic’’.
Peskov noted the shift toward online sales and emphasised the need to cooperate with global leaders in that area.
“The basic principle is very simple either you are the best in the world, or you learn from the best in the world. If you follow this principle, you will definitely not create a bad product,’’ Peskov pointed out.
The fourth EEF will be held from Tuesday to Thursday in Russia’s Far East.
The main event of the forum will be the plenary session “The Russian Far East: Creating a New Reality,’’ in which Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate.
