Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Ruger, has opened up about his musical beginnings, revealing that his career started in the church choir.

In a recent episode of the Apple Music programme Africa Now, Ruger shared that his background in the church choir helped sharpen his vocal skills.

The “Bounce” hitmaker expressed that he doesn’t often showcase his vocal ability in his songs, but those who have experienced his live performances have witnessed his talent firsthand.

Ruger stated, “Only people who have experienced me perform live have had the opportunity to enjoy my vocals. Even in my music, I don’t necessarily show it off. My favourite time being Ruger is when I’m performing on stage because I get to do whatever I like with my songs. I started from the choir. I know how to sing, especially when it is a song that resonates deeply with me.”
