Rudeboy Reflects on Retirement from Music

Renowned singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has expressed that he and his contemporaries should have retired from music by now. The 45-year-old artist shared his thoughts during an appearance on the Adesope Live Show, highlighting the challenges of balancing family life with a music career.

“In the old ways of doing music, by now people like us suppose don retire,” Rudeboy remarked. He emphasized that every phase in life has its time and that the entertainment industry is no exception. “If you are a celebrity and you think people will always see you like an angel, trust me you’re not going anywhere. There are times that something would be against you. It’s always like that.”

Rudeboy, who gained fame in the 2000s as part of the P-Square duo with his twin brother Peter Okoye (Mr P), reflected on the inevitable criticisms and scandals that come with being a top artist. “Every top artist has had their share of criticisms and scandals. Even the up-and-coming ones, too, will suffer the same fate someday. It’s a normal thing [in the entertainment industry]. But what matters is your personality and how you handle issues.”

The P-Square group, which first split in 2016 and reunited in 2021, has faced another breakup. In August 2024, Rudeboy confirmed the split after Peter accused him and their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, of diverting the group’s funds.
