Football legend Ronaldinho was lucky to escape unhurt after a rusty traffic signpost fell right in front of a car conveying him to Kozhikode, in the Indian state of Kerala.
According to Quint, the Brazilian footballer was attending a two-day event in north Kerala, to launch the Sait Nagjee Cup football tournament, which commences on February 5, as its international ambassador.
He had reportedly visited a township known as Nadakkavu and was returning to Kozhikode when the traffic signpost fell right in front of the car, narrowly missing crushing the occupants, including the former Barcelona star.
Local police ruled out a security lapse, explaining that the traffic post, which was not in working condition, gave way as excited fans thronged the roadside while trying to get a glimpse of the two-time FIFA Ballon D’Or winner.
Police officials also said no one was injured in the unfortunate incident.
