Veteran Hollywood actor, Robert De Niro has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The Oscar-winning actor’s condition was said to have been detected within the past week and doctors expect a complete recovery.
In a statement on August 22, his publicist, Stan Rosenfield announced:
“Doctors say the condition was detected at an early stage because of regular check-ups. Because of the early detection and his excellent physical condition, doctors project a full recovery. He’s a private person and doesn’t care to have his treatment out for public consumption.”
Mr Rosenfield also said the 60-year-old actor did not want to disclose whether he would be undergoing surgery or another form of treatment but plans to fulfill a commitment to start shooting his next film, Hide and Seek, early next year.
De Niro, one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation, has appeared in more than 60 movies in a career spanning 40 years. He has also been nominated for six Oscars, winning as best actor in 1980 for ‘Raging Bull’ and as best supporting actor in 1974 for ‘The Godfather, Part II’.
