Some motorists on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos narrowly escaped being dispossessed of their belongings, including a Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla , by robbers posing as policemen on Sunday.
According to reports, the timely intervention of men of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command who were on regular patrol prevented the robbers from making away with their loot.
It was learnt that two members of the four-man gang disguised as policemen to stop motorists.
However, as the motorists stopped, the other two members jumped down from their hiding and took the victims hostage.
After dispossessing the victims, the gang was said to be attempting to make away with their booty when the RRS gave them a hot chase.
In their rush to escape arrest, the gang members reportedly left behind their loot and a toy gun with which they robbed their victims and fled into the bush.
However, no arrest has been made.
The police in Lagos said patrols will be intensified around the metropolis for the security of residents and the fleeing robbers will be brought to justice.
