2 Min Read

The Oyo State government on Tuesday said it had commenced the inauguration of Road Safety Clubs and an advocacy program in secondary schools in the state.

Dr Akin Fagbemi, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), said this in a statement in Ibadan.

He said that the OYRTMA was domesticating the clubs in schools through the Corps members attached to the agency.

According to him, the programme will inculcate in the younger one’s basic road safety tips.

Fagbemi said that preparations were also in top gear to kick-start an essay competition across the state on ‘Effective Road Traffic Management Strategies’.

He said that undergraduates would participate in the competition, in which several awards would be won.

Fagbemi said that corps members attached to OYRTMA would go around schools with the aim of catching children young and sensitising them on safety tips.

“This program is to further enhance actualization of the Strategic Roadmap for Accelerated Development Plan 2019-2023 of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, particularly in traffic management and ample reduction in road crashes involving school pupils and other vulnerable people in society,” he said.

Fagbemi noted that though the corps members had just a year to serve with the state, their successors would continue with the programme propelled by OYRTMA.

The statement indicated that Loyola College, Ibadan was the first point of call as the corps members educated the students on highway safety precautions, traffic rules and regulations and we crave of becoming successful and high-flyers in their studies.
