The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maurice Pronem, has defeated Dumnamene Dekor of the People’s Democratic Party in Khana/Gokana federal constituency in the Saturday’s Rivers rerun election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Pronem as the winner on Sunday afternoon, December 11.
The returning officer, G.O Osuagwu announced that the APC candidate secured 68,219 votes while PDP’s Dekor got 20,329 votes.
More results from other local governments are still being collated.
Meanwhile the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), George Sekibo in Rivers east senatorial district is reportedly leading Andrew Uchendu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state rerun election.
According to The Cable, Sekibo is leading with a total of 77,691 votes, while Uchendu is trailing at a distance with 27,754.
This leaves a wide margin of 49,937 between the two candidates.
The results of Emouha and Ikwerre Local Government areas are still being expected as at press time.
The court of appeal sitting in Abuja had sacked Sekibo late last year and ordered a fresh election, but the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could not conclude rerun election as a result of widespread violence.
