Amid the face-off between Governor Siminalaye Fubara of Rivers State and his predecessor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the Ijaw Monitoring Group urged President Bola Tinubu to call his appointee to order.
The group’s coordinator, Joseph Evah made the call as a guest on a Channels TV programme on Tuesday.
Recall that Tinubu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors had in October intervened to stop the Rivers State House of Assembly from impeaching the governor, a move allegedly instigated by Wike.
Since the interventions, there has been an uneasy peace between the governor and his erstwhile political godfather.
Earlier in the week, Wike expressed his disdain for “ingrates“, a jibe suspected to be aimed at the Rivers governor.
Speaking on the issue, Evah said, “What is happening in our River State, fire is on the mountain in River State. We want the President to intervene in this matter. Call the FCT minister to order. We don’t want fire on the mountain in River State. That is our demand.
“Ijaw people will never fold hands. Just like Ikwerre people would not fold hands if they want to mess up their own son. The Urhobo people will not fold hands. The Yoruba people never folded their hands when annulment of June 12 took place.”
