Ritualist nabbed trying to kill girl, 9, in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected ritualist identified simply as Achor who allegedly tried to use a nine-year-old girl for rituals.

The incident reportedly occurred in Ibaa community in Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The girl was said to have gone missing in the community when she went to dispose off refuse, causing her parents to raise an alarm over her disappearance.

It was learnt that the girl’s disappearance was echoed around the community and reported to the police and Army.

According to witnesses, the suspect was caught by soldiers who went in search of the missing girl.

He was reportedly caught inside an abandoned building having dressed the girl in white cloths, appeared clay on her forehead and placed a coffin nearby in preparation for the ritual.

The soldiers who reportedly initially took him into custody were said to have handed her over to policemen at Rumuji.

Confirming the suspect’s arrest, Rivers State Police spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni stated that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, had ordered the suspect’s transfer to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
