Rihanna only just released her long awaited eighth studio album, Anti, on Thursday this week but it’s already gone platinum.
As part of a $25million deal with Samsung, Anti became available as a free download on Jay Z’s Tidal this week. Samsung gave away one million free download codes to its mobile phone users.
According to Tidal, it was streamed more than 13 million times in the first 14 hours of release on Thursday.
According to TorrentFreak, Anti is also proving popular on illegal sharing websites.
In a statement, the site’s owner, Ernesto told Newsbeat: “The Rihanna Deluxe edition of Anti is currently the most shared album on public torrent sites.
“It’s safe to say that tens of thousands of people have downloaded a pirated copy via BitTorrent alone today.”
But according to Forbes magazine, the fact that Samsung pre-bought Rihanna’s album before it went on general sale, doesn’t mean it will be recognised by those putting together Billboard and other music charts.
