People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have shared an undercover video that shows how ostriches are slaughtered for their skin and feathers to be used for luxury goods products such as handbags and shoes.
PETA obtained the footage from an ostrich slaughterhouse in South Africa, which it claims is employed by major fashion brands such as Prada and Hermès.
The video shows the animals being let in to the abattoir where they are stunned before their throats are cut.
The ostriches are taken in one by one and turned upside down in a stunner, after which the unconscious bird has its throat cut.
Some of the ostriches on the farm are being restrained while still alive in order to have their feathers plucked for feather dusters having their feathers removed.
Hermes and Prada Bags are luxury bags made exclusively for the rich and famous.
