Revealed: Why Jonathan sacked Joy Emordi

4 Min Read
Senator Joy Emordi

Many reasons were penciled down for the sack of the Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on National Assembly Matters, Joy Emordi but the major ones have been revealed by very close sources to the presidency.

But an overriding reason among others was for her sack has been linked toan alleged romance with the opposition faction, the New PDP.

Also her alleged lack of remorse over perceived lapses and insistent argument with President Jonathan earned her the outright sack.

It was also revealed that she rather argued that the way forward was not to bribe each of the lawmakers in the National Assembly with the N2.5 million.

Emordi was also basically accused of insensitivity pertaining to the visit of the New PDP to the National Assembly and shown the way out for not furnishing the presidency with adequate prior information about the moves of the splinter group to visit the National Assembly.

It was gathered that president Jonathan was annoyed that Emordi was clueless about the invasion of the national Assembly by Baraje and the seven Governors which caused embarrassment for the president’s camp.

However, after her sack, Emordi insisted that she did her assignments and ensured that objectives of the president were achieved in the National Assembly coupled with building a good running relationship between Jonathan and the lawmakers.

“It is on record that while I was in office, and worked with you, no executive bill or major government policy instrument failed in the National Assembly”, she recounted.

She also pointed out that “there was not a single override of presidential veto despite the occasional and serious face-offs between the NASS and the executive on such issues.

“Equally, 99.9 per cent of all Presidential nominees- ministerial, ambassadorial, Chairmen and members of Commissions were confirmed by the Senate through my enormous goodwill, diplomacy, and interventions and your objective reportage of issues”, she stated.

A reliable source revealed that President Jonathan was vexed that Emordi could not uphold the plan by Tukur to pay a courtesy visit to the House leadership, before New PDP members sent information to the Baraje faction to do same and got control of the Tukur-led factions plans.

According to a source, the ploy was for “Tukur to be thoroughly embarrassed and disgraced with questions, jibes and outright insults during his visit”.

It was noted that the argument Emordi had with the president further aggravated his anger.

“This annoyed the Presidency, which felt that if she had done her job effectively in the first place, there would not have been a need to recourse to using cash as a last option to counter the Baraje faction in the National Assembly,” a source said.

Another reason which sources say was very important to her sack was the alleged relationship between the former adviser and a senator from the North Central region of the country.

Emordi was said to be “very close” to the senator who is a former governor and one of the arrowheads of the New PDP in the Senate.

To this extent, President Jonathan and his advisers believed that Emordi could no longer be trusted as a loyal member of Jonathan’s caucus.

But she insisted her non-confrontational and dialogue approach she adopted covered a lot of ground to enhance the stable relationship brought between the Presidency and the lawmakers.

This is in spite of accusations from the presidency that she was not well-grounded in the National Assembly.
