It has emerged that presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Obiageli Ezekwesili refused to exchange handshakes with her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar during the January 19 presidential debate held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri made the allegation in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Friday.
Omokri, a former Special Assistant to President Jonathan on New Media, said that the incident occurred at the lounge of the hotel.
Recall that Ezekwesili was Minister of Education under the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration which had Atiku as Vice President.
It could not be immediately determined if the alleged animosity had anything to do with their time working together in the administration.
Ezekwesili on Thursday announced her decision to quit the presidential race in order to support a coalition to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP.
However, Omokri rejected her explanation for quitting the race.
He said, “Could it be that the only reason for Oby Ezekwesili candidacy was to attack and demystify Atiku at the #2019Debate and when Atiku failed to swallow the bait, Oby’s sponsors pulled the plug? Let me shock you-Oby refused to even shake Atiku at the lounge before the debate #RenosDarts”
