David de Gea missed out on a contract worth around £66 million when his planned move to Real Madrid fell through last summer, leaked documents have revealed.
The proposed contract between the Manchester United goalkeeper and Real is the latest high-profile deal to be uploaded by the website Football Leaks. The nine-page document, published in Spanish, has been released alongside the two-page contract with the Spanish Football Federation, highlighting just how close the Spain international came to joining Madrid before the deal collapsed.
Madrid did not submit the necessary paperwork to the Spanish Football Federation until 28 minutes after the transfer window had closed on midnight on Aug 31 last year, although the Spanish club blamed United for not sending the documents through Fifa’s Transfer Matching System on time.
Further details of the proposed six-year transfer with Real were revealed on Tuesday with the publication of the two contracts, signed by De Gea, Real Madrid director general José Ángel Sánchez and managing director Manuel Redondo Sierra. The contract entitled the goalkeeper to a salary of around £9.2 million a year, paid in two installments.
The contract also prohibited him from “participating in activities deemed risky or dangerous, such as riding any type of motorcycle, skiing, paragliding or mountaineering”.
