A Twitter user, Olaniyi Olaide, has revealed how a hacker pretended to be a Facebook customer care agent to hack his account on the social media platform.
He made the revelation in a Twitter thread on Friday.
He added that the hacker after gaining access to his account has been demanding money to return it.
Tagging Facebook on Twitter, Olade wrote, @Facebook My name is Olaniyi Olaide Matthew. My account is at web.facebook.com/olaniyi.olaide.
“Today is my Birthday. Today, someone called me whose number was identified as Facebook Customer Care.
“He said he called from Facebook to wish me a happy birthday.
“Unknowing to me, he used that to get access to an OTP to change my account email address.
“He changed the account email address and removed my phone number. He also changed my password.
“I’ve tried all means to recover the account to no avail. I cannot access the new email address he has used.
“The phone numbers he has used to reach me are 07036710686 and 08063842706.
“He called me asking for money to release my account. He said he would sell my account if I refuse to pay a ransom.
“I would appreciate any help I can get to restore my account.”
