A former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee, Mr Abdullahi Jalo, has disclosed that Senator Ali Mode Sheriff planned to use his chairmanship position to clinch the party’s presidential ticket.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, May 23, Jalo stated that Sheriff was responsible for the problem in the party, adding that Sheriff had planned to later secure the party’s presidential ticket.
He said that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during its 71st meeting had agreed that Sheriff’s tenure had expired as he was meant to complete the tenure of Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, which ended in March.
“The convention in Port Harcourt had, seeing the danger ahead, unanimously resolved that we should give way for peace to reign, and the party is more supreme than any individual in the NWC.
“So in order to bring peace, Jerry Gana, Mantu, Turaki, Zainab Maina and many others are insisting that Ali Modu Sheriff should go.”
It will be recalled that Sheriff was sacked by the party following his cancellation of the party’s national convention which held in Port Harcourt on Saturday, May 21.
