The House of Representatives has urged politicians all over the country to participate in voluntary blood donation.
The House also decried the Nigerian elite’s attitude towards blood donation while urging the relevant Federal Government agencies to create more awareness targeted at the elite all over the country.
The resolutions was the outcome of the adoption of a motion on the matter sponsored by Hon. Chika Okafor (APC, Imo), expressing concern over shortage of blood at the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) and all health institutions across the country.
Okafor said “It is worrisome that perceived unwillingness of the political class to participate in the voluntary donation venture has made it difficult for other classes of Nigerians to support the programme despite all efforts being made to create awareness on voluntary donation of blood.
“It must however be clearly stated that there is insufficient blood in the National Blood Bank and all the health institutions in the country are in short supply of donated blood.”
