The House of Representatives has issued a threat to arrest the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
The Ad-hoc Committee led by Garba Datti investigating the arrest of judicial officers issued the threat yesterday while giving an ultimatum to the AGF to appear before the committee before November 29, 2016 or face arrest.
The threat comes following the continuous boycott of invitations issued to the AGF by the committee requesting his appearance to clarify the involvement of his office in the arrest of some Federal High Court Judges by the DSS during a sting operation.
The Garba Datti led Ad-hoc committee issued the threat after a closed door session with the DG of the DSS and an open hearing with representatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the second day of the investigative public hearing.
He said: “The only area we are having problem with is the AGF who is the chief law officer. We sent letters to him, but there was no answer and no memorandum from him. Before the public hearing, we had summoned him, even today (Thursday), he did not appear or send any representation.
“This Committee is disturbed by the non- appearance of the AGF. We have given him the opportunity to appear on November 29, failure of which this Committee will invoke all the relevant laws that give us power for arrest.”
