Reps Set Up 10-Man Committee To Investigate Kogi House Of Assembly

House of Representatives

A 10-man panel has been constituted by the House of Representatives in Abuja on Tuesday to investigate the ongoing crisis brewing in the Kogi State House of Assembly.

The constituted committee which will be headed by the Deputy House Whip, Mr. Pally Iriase, APC Edo State, is expected to submit reports in the move of the House to possibly hand over the State Assembly to the National Assembly for takeover.

The 10-man panel also consist of the Chairman, House Committee on Police Affairs, Mr. Haliru Jika; Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education, Mr. Zakari Mohammed; Chairman, House Committee on Foreign Relations, Nnena Ukeje; Mr. Edward Pwakok; Mr. Bassey Ewa; Mr. Sunday Adepoju; and Mr. Dasuki Abdulsamad.

Recall that the State House of Assembly had impeached its Speaker, Momoh Jimoh-Lawal and replaced him immediately, an act which Jimoh and 14 others in a petition filed to the National Assembly on Thursday considered “unconstitutional”.

Following the submission of the petition urging the House to condemn the purported removal of the Speaker to the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, for transmission to the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, the Majority leader had last week promised processes will be initiated on February 23 as concerning the issue.

The investigative panel will kick-start their investigation with a visit to the state capita, Lokoja to meet with the 20 members of the State Assembly.
