The House of Representatives, on Thursday urged the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to carry out a survey and design of Machina/Dole/Jigawa Border road.
The House also urged the ministry to include its construction in any supplementary appropriation for 2017 or the 2018 budget.
This was sequel to a motion by Rep. Yakubu Karasuwa (APC-Yobe).
Moving the motion, Karasuwa explained that the 60 kilometres road linked Machina, Konkomma, Garmin, Galtima, Falimaram, Shekuri, Kalgidi, Mala Abbari and Kortoni Dike in Yobe and Jigawa States.
He added that the road was of great economic importance in the conveyance of merchandise from Nguru to Niger Republic and vice versa.
Karasuwa expressed concern that the deplorable state of the road was causing great hardship to motorists and residents of adjoining communities.
The lawmaker was optimistic that the construction of the road would boost economic activities of the communities, ease movements of goods, people and further improve the quality of life.
The motion was unanimously adopted by members when it was put to a voice vote by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Yussuff Lasun.
The House, therefore, mandated its Committees on Works and Appropriations to ensure compliance. (NAN)
