CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele

The House of Representatives has on Thursday picked interest in the alleged backdoor recruitment of 909 employees by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The secret recruitment which has raised a lot of dust was reported to have been ordered by the Governor of the Apex bank, Godwin Emefiele with relatives of highly-placed individuals being the beneficiaries of the illegal scheme.

During a session presided over by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, an All Progressive Congress Lawmaker representing Kano State, Mr. Aliyu Madaki had tabled the issue before the house under ‘matters of urgent public importance’ and the House in turn saddled the Committee on Federal Character, Banking/Curreny to probe into the issue and report back within three weeks.

Madaki while tabling the issue said the recruitment process was without public awareness as there was no prior notification or advert placement to give Nigerians an opportunity to apply for the positions.

He continued that; “The recruitment by the CBN is in breach of the Federal Character Principle as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“The recruitment breached section 14(1); 14(3); and Section 17(1) of the constitution. There was no fairness, no justice in this exercise conducted by the CBN.”
