Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has identified leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky as the victim of the greatest injustice in Nigeria since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power.
Omokri, who was Special Assistant to ex-President Jonathan on New Media, made this known following the decision of a State High Court in Kaduna to fix ruling on his bail application for November 7.
Justice Gideon Kurada adjourned the matter after the prosecution counsel, Dari Bayero, complained of inadequate security in Kaduna as the relevant security agencies had drafted personnel to other parts of the state for the visit of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the state.
El-Zakzaky has been in detention since an altercation between some of his followers and soldiers in Zaria, Kaduna state on December 15, 2015.
More than 300 Shiites, as El-Zakzaky’s followers are called, were killed in the face-off, including three of his sons.
El-Zakzaky’s continued detention has generated controversy across the country and beyond, with many people, including foremost human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) calling on the government to free him.
Omokri, who took to his verified Twitter handle to condemn El-Zakzaky’s detention, said, “The greatest injustice in Nigeria since 2015 is that done to Ibrahim Zakzaky. 347 Shiite men, women, and kids killed by the army on Dec 15, 2016. His sons killed. He was placed in illegal detention and now denied bail. Is it because he is a Muslim that we are not speaking up?”
