Popular Nigerian singer, Rema, has called on his colleagues to maintain the country’s dominance in the African music scene by preserving the afrobeats culture. Rema made this statement in an interview with Apple Music, acknowledging the recent influx of amapiano, a South African genre, into the Nigerian music industry.
While admitting that amapiano is a great genre, Rema emphasized the need for Nigerian artists to sustain the influence of afrobeats on the continent. He drew inspiration from afrobeats legends like Don Jazzy, Mo’hits crew, 2Baba, Olamide, P-Square, and Timaya for his recently released album, ‘HeIs’.
Rema expressed his desire to see Nigerian artists continue to produce afrobeats that can dominate clubs in Africa, just like they used to. He believes that sustaining the culture of afrobeats is crucial for the growth and development of the Nigerian music industry.
