Relatives of six crew members of flight MH17, which crashed in eastern Ukraine two years ago, have filed a civil suit against Malaysia Airlines on Thursday, their lawyer has said.
The negligence and breach of contract case against Malaysia’s national carrier was filed before the Kuala Lumpur High Court registry, according to the counsel, Balan Nair.
The relatives said that the airline negligently dispatched and executed the flight over an area known to be under armed conflict.
Flight MH17 was shot down with a missile in Donetsk airspace on July 17, 2014, killing all 298 people aboard.
The aircraft had 15 crew members and it was travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
Two weeks ago, relatives of 33 MH17 victims from Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia filed a suit against Russia and President Vladimir Putin in the European Court of Human Rights.
Malaysia Airline is also facing suits from relatives of Beijing-bound flight MH370, which disappeared on March 8, 2014 nearly an hour after it left Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
