Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has cried out to the Federal Government to refund of N132 billion his administration has spent on constructing federal roads in the state.
It was gathered that a total of 232 kilometers have so far been constructed by his administration.
The national policy on reimbursement of funds spent by states on federal roads stipulates that states comply with due process procedure in the award of the projects and carry the Federal Government along in the contract process, but it was not clear if the state complied with the specifications.
Secretary to the State Government, Umana Umana who spoke during the national good governance tour of projects in the state on Friday, pleaded with the Federal Government to hasten the process of refund.
Although he did not state if the state had approached the Federal Ministry of Works officially on the matter, but he said that it was crucial for the state government to use the occasion of the tour to demand for a refund.
Mr Umana also spoke on the N12 billion specialist hospitals due to the completed by the first quarter of next year.
He disclosed that the 290-bed hospital is to have six VIP wards, six operating theatres, citiscan, virology, modular theatre and a nursing training institute among others.
