Chelsea captain Reece James has come to the defense of head coach Enzo Maresca amid growing criticism from fans and pundits, insisting that the team is fully behind their manager and focused on securing Champions League football next season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, James dismissed concerns about Maresca’s tactical approach, stating that the Italian coach has been instrumental in improving the squad’s performance.
“Our objective is to play Champions League football next year. I think there’s still more to come from us—it’s early days,” James said.

The England international highlighted the team’s progress this season, emphasizing their ability to compete consistently with top Premier League sides.
“We’ve learned a lot this season and are still learning. We have come on leaps and bounds, fighting against the best teams in the league. The balance of the team is key, and everyone complements each other well. That has helped us get to where we are so far.”
James also praised Maresca’s passion and dedication, describing the manager’s style as engaging and enjoyable for the players.
“Hopefully, our performances reflect how far we have come. The way the head coach is with the team, the way he wants us to play, and how passionate he is makes it enjoyable.”
Chelsea, who finished sixth in the Premier League last season, are currently pushing for a top-four finish, with 49 points from 29 matches. With several key games remaining, the team remains determined to secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
