Ebere Amaraizu, Chairman, Enugu State Taekwondo Association, has recommended the learning of the practice and principles of taekwondo for protection of the girl-child against social molestation.
Amaraizu spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Enugu against the backdrop of rising cases of girl-child sexual and social molestation as well as assault, especially from older males within the society.

He said that taekwondo as a sport was beyond what people know about it as a sport but a very good self-protective sport meant to keep the athletes in self-defence.
“Taekwondo has a cutting edge over all other sports because of its positive foundation which is anchored in its tenets of integrity, indomitable spirit, discipline, survival skills and self-defence.
“For the girl-child, it gives her self-defence, self-protection and self-control capabilities among others against all forms of molestation,’’ he said.
Amaraizu, who is the National Coordinator of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), maintained that teaches self-confidence and hard work as well.
He advocated for the Ministries of Education as well as Youth and Sports Development to have a proper liaison that would see to the establishment of taekwondo kiddies/schools club in various schools and colleges.
“This is to enable school children to enjoy the accruing benefits apart from becoming a sport,’’ he added.
