Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa has called on political elite in the country, irrespective of party affiliation, to work with the Federal Government to end the current economic recession.
Dickson made the call when the Senate Committee on State and Local Government Administration visited the state to investigate alleged mismanagement of bailout fund in Yenagoa on Tuesday,
He urged Nigerians to not to allow their differences to stand in the way of the overall interest of the country.
The governor expressed optimism that with the efforts being put in place by the Federal Government, the country would get out of the woods.
“ I want to thank the Federal Government for the various support and initiatives to the federating units and the local government councils.
“Our country has gone through the terrible and trying economic downturn it has experienced in the last two years.
“The downturn is still on but with the signs we are seeing this 2017, if we all pray and support one another, encourage one another and work together, especially on security and the economy we will bounce back.
“The Federal Government has to be commended.
“The President and the Economic Team has to be commended for the various steps they have taken at different times to increase the dwindling revenues of states and local government areas,’’ he said.
Dickson further commended the National Assembly for its role in helping to revamp the economy, through enactment of implementable laws and oversight.
He commended the lawmakers for effective representation and services rendered to ensure sustainable development.
According to him, when I interact with my colleagues who are serving in the National Assembly, I tell them that any state that has a member of the national assembly as a governor is a fortunate state.
“This is because we parliamentarians know the other side of politics. We understand how to interact.
“We know how to mobilise resources, manage resources, manage situations and carry people along to achieve result,” he said.(NAN)
