Counsels to the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki on Thursday staged a walkout at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The lawyers insisted that the tribunal should have stayed proceeding because the case was pending before the Supreme Court.
Saraki is facing a 13-count charge bordering on alleged corruption and false declaration of assets.
He was arraigned on September 18 although he pleaded not guilty and he was granted bail.
On Wednesday, he appealed to the Supreme Court to stop the trial after the Court of Appeal in Abuja ignored his request last week.
His lawyers, Ahmed Magaji and Ahmed Raji, walked out of the Tribunal because the Chairman Umar Danladi, decided to continue hearing despite the pending Supreme Court Case.
Magaji who described Danladi’s action as judicial rascality reportedly said “It is a strange situation; it is not done anywhere that a matter is pending before a higher court, as the one in the Supreme Court and proceedings will continue in a smaller court.”
The matter was eventually adjourned till Thursday, November 19.
