Police authorities have debunked allegations that it invited Senate President Bukola Saraki over involvement in the infamous Offa Bank Robbery of April 5.
The police said it only invited the nation’s number three citizen to explain why he allegedly bought prohibited arms for his suspected political thugs which were used to kill innocent Nigerians.
The police further claimed that it had established that four of the gang members accompanied the Senate President on a courtesy visit to the Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye, barely 48 hours after the gang killed 33 persons, including nine policemen.
The also said that one of the gang members donned the same ankara material worn by invited guests at Saraki’s daughter’s wedding, and so Saraki could not claim not to know them.
The Vanguard quoted a police source as saying, “it is an offence to purchase prohibited weapons for criminals in whatever guise, be it thuggery or whatever you call it.
“For your information, 48 hours after the Offa armed robbery operation and killings, the four gang leaders of the group that perpetrated the devilish act, accompanied the delegation of the Senate President to visit the Olofa of Offa to console with him over the killings.”
