Indications have emerged concerning the reason the Senate postponed the screening of the ministerial nominee from Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi earlier scheduled for Thursday to Tuesday next week.
Amaechi was expected to be screened yesterday alongside former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola; Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, and others, but his screening was rescheduled for Thursday for an undisclosed reason.
However, in an interview on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Senate, Sen. Dino Melaye said that the committee looking into corruption petitions against Amaechi would be submitting its report next week Tuesday, after which his screening will be done on the same day.
It will be recalled that Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Petitions, Sen. Sam Anyanwu on Wednesday told the members that the Amaechi report was not ready, which prompted the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to direct that the report be made available on Thursday.
The screening of the nominee from Oyo State, who also contested the governorship of his state under the All Progressives Congress, Barr Adebayo Shittu, will also be conducted the same day.
