Real Madrid set to reappoint Zidane as coach

2 Min Read

There indications that Spanish club, Real Madrid, will soon sack their Manager, Santiago Solari, and reappoint Zinedine Zidane as coach.

It was gathered that the decision will be announced after a board meeting which takes place on Monday.

Solari has been under heavy criticism from the management and the fans following Madrid’s ignoble performance in recent months, including the club’s exit from the Champions League at the round of 16 last Tuesday.

That is in addition to Clasico defeats against Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu, crashing out of the Copa Del Rey and falling 12 points behind Barca in La Liga.

Club president, Florentino Perez, was said to have met with members of his board after the loss against Ajax, to decide when to sack Solari.

It was reportedly decided to let Solari stay in place until the club finds a replacement.

The club was said to be considering Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, Juventus boss, Massimiliano Allegri; and Germany coach, Joachim Low, but former managers Zidane and Jose Mourinho emerged as the top targets.

Zidane was the first choice and has been convinced to take over for a second spell, having only left the club at the end of May following a successful two-and-a-half year tenure in which Madrid won the Champions League three times in a row.

The announcement of Solari’s sack, and replacement with Zidane will likely come after a board meeting later on Monday.

Zidane is expected to take over in the coming days and should be in charge for next weekend’s La Liga game at home to Celta Vigo.
