The Barcelona squad will be heading to South Africa for a match against Mamelodi Sundowns this May.
The game will take place on May 16, between the La Liga champions’ game against Levante on May 13 and their final league game against Real Sociedad on May 20.
The charity game, which is to be played at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, is to commemorate the 100th-year anniversary of legendary African leader, Nelson Mandela.
As they have already won the league and Copa del Rey, the Blaugrana have vowed to send a strong squad to the Rainbow nation, raising fans’ hope that five-time Ballon D’Or winner, Lionel Messi, will be on the team.
The president of Mamelodi Sundowns, Patrice Motsepe, revealed, “The plan was to make the announcement on Monday in Spain. Somehow it got into the public domain and there has been so many enquiries.
“This is the year of the Nelson Mandela Centenary year. We have partnered with the Nelson Mandela Foundation.”
