Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was forced out of the United Kingdom and still cannot enter the country after his Tier 1 investor visa expired.
The billionaire is reportedly affected by the massive clampdown on holders of that type of visas in the country.
The development prevented him from watching his club’s FA Cup triumph against Manchester United on Sunday, The Sun UK reported.
According to reports, Abramovich, who is the 13th richest person in Britain, may still find it impossible to re-enter the country unless he can explain the source of his wealth.
The Times UK reported that Abramovich’s visa renewal is now being treated like that of a new applicant and he will therefore have to prove that his “character, conduct or associations” contribute to the public good.
However, the Russian government has described Abramovich’s ordeal as the result of “anti-Russian mania”.
Spokesman to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov said, “We are witnessing Britain’s rather unprecedented anti-Russian mania which is manifested in various ways.
“I have no doubt that such actions won’t go unnoticed by investors from other countries.
“Many countries are working to improve their investment attractiveness and this I believe is a step in the opposite direction.”
