The youths of Ohaneze Nidigbo have raised an alarm over what could happen if Nnamdi Kanu is re-arrested. They warned that such actions may lead to chaos in the southern region of the country and bring an end to the partial peace that had begun to reign over there.
Ohaneze equally stated that the government should not forget how the killings and brutalization of the citizens in the south gave room for the clamor for Biafra.
In the statement released by the president of Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Council, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and its Secretary-General, Okwu Nnabuike, the group urged that president Muhammadu Buhari should give a “presidential pardon” to Nnamdi Kanu, adding that the arrest order came as a shock to many.
“The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide received the pronouncement and re-arrest order of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by a Federal High Court in Abuja with rude shock and disbelief.
“Weighing the implications of such action, it may destabilize the fragile peace that have returned to the southern part of Nigeria, especially the South-East and South-South after the sad experiences witnessed during his first arrest and subsequently the untimely death of innocent Igbo youth and women that characterized his first arrest and detention.
“And there is no need to escalate the tension already established in the South-East over the menace of herdsmen ravaging parts of Igboland.”
