Rising Florida rapper Kodak Black was recently arrested on multiple charges including robbery, kidnapping and assault.
Kodak was sentenced to once year of house arrest and five years of probation after he pleaded no contest to numerous charges, including robbery false imprisonment, fleeing a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.
Black entered a plea deal with the court that will require him to perform community service, participate in anger management training, and do community control supervision, one year of house arrest, as part of his freedom.
He will face no jail time but will be on probation for five years.
Michael Kushner, executive vice president of legal at Atlantic Records, testified on behalf of Kodak at the hearing.
“He’s only at the very beginning of a very promising career,” he said.
“It is our hope that the court will agree that he be given the opportunity to turn his life around.”
The judge decided to withhold the adjudication against Black, which means he will not be a convicted felon and will still be able to travel internationally and tour.
When accepting the plea deal, Judge Lisa Porter had this to say to Kodak:
“I will give you an opportunity, Mr. Octave, to prove yourself here, and be a productive member of society. What happens from here on out is up to you.”
Kodak Black, 19, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, had spent three months in jail for the charges.
But after Black’s appearance in court, it was discovered that he had two arrest warrants against him.
One of those warrants is a felony count of criminal sexual conduct. The other is for two cannabis charges.
One was from St. Lucie County in Florida and the other from Florence, South Carolina.
Because of the warrants, Octave will remain in custody of the Broward Sheriff’s Office until those court proceedings are resolved.
Black, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, is from the Golden Acres Projects in Pompano Beach, Fla.
