Worldwide rap star Ja Rule is in a New York City federal jail, reports the AP.
The 36-year-old left a state prison last week, where he was serving a two-year sentence for illegal gun possession, and went straight into federal custody for tax evasion.
Ja Rule is set to be released from prison July 28, the Associated Press reported.
Ja Rule, real name Jeffery Atkins, is an acclaimed rapper, songwriter and actor, best known for his hits “Holla Holla,” “Between Me and You” and “Put It on Me.”
In early 2012, Ja Rule said “prison is amazing” when discussing the new friends he made in the prison.
