The Kano State Police Command has charged 72 alleged rapists to court after thorough investigation into their cases had been concluded.
This was disclosed by the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majiya on Tuesday.
According to Majiya, it had become necessary for the command to charge the 72 alleged rapists before the court because of their shameless behaviour.
He said that the command was prosecuting the cases to serve as a deterrent to others who may be considering committing the heinous crime.
However, when the charges were read to them in court, the defendants pleaded not guilty, and the court ordered them remanded in prison.
Kano State has one of the highest incidences of rape in the country.
