A raid on Kwata community in Jos South Local Government, Plateau State, by armed Fulani men has left not less than 14 persons dead and scores injured.
According to reports, the attack took place in the night, when residents of the community were sleeping.
The attackers had sent a prior message in which they threatened to attack the community but the residents took it lightly, a source told THISDAY.
He said the attackers had written the warning letter to the community of Kwata Trade Centre and Kuru, where the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) is located.
The attackers reportedly got to the community around 8pm, when the men had gone out to relax, and broke down the weak doors and windows.
After they gained entrance, the Fulani attackers reportedly “hacked down helpless children and women, leaving them in the pool of their blood. Others, who tried to escape into the nearby bush, were shot by the attackers,” the source said.
Security agencies were said to have gotten to the community about an hour after the attackers had left.
Many of the injured were then rushed to the hospital for treatment.
