Liverpool manager Brenden Rogers praised Raheem Sterling’s effort in qualifying the team for the next round of the Capital One Cup, comparing him to Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.
Sterling is happy playing for Liverpool, Rogers claim.
The forward scored twice in the Red’s 3 – 1 win at Bournemouth that saw them through to the semi finals against Chelsea.
“His contract situation is nothing to do with him. His representatives are the ones working with the club. He is, as
you can see, happy and enjoying his football. At Old Trafford he was unfortunate not to score and in that role he
plays, you think of Alexis Sanchez when he plays for Arsenal,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.
Rodgers, who came under fire for deploying Sterling in a central striking role in the Manchester United loss, stuck by his guns and played him again in the same position against Bournemouth.
“He can play across the front line. His best position is on the left, dipping inside, making runs in behind, creating one- on-ones. I put him in the position because i believe he can play in it. He played there in the youth team at Liverpool and he has the quality to do it,” said the Liverpool boss.
