“As a symbolic demonstration of our protest against autocracy and military-style repression, PUNCH (all our print newspapers, The PUNCH, Saturday PUNCH, Sunday PUNCH, PUNCH Sports Extra, and digital platforms, most especially Punchng.com) will henceforth prefix Buhari’s name with his rank as a military dictator in the 80s, Major General, and refer to his administration as a regime, until they purge themselves of their insufferable contempt for the rule of law.”

PUNCH News, a notable news publication firm in Nigeria, has boldly and confidently declared its stand against a certain trend of the Buhari led “regime” which has portrayed nothing more than a DICTATORIAL RULE. Some have boldly stated that Buhari is a TYRANT.
Audacious in its editorial on Wednesday, PUNCH disclosed its distaste for the series of event which has greatly stamped the fundamental rights of citizens in Nigeria which are contained in the Constitution. President Buhari, or Major-General Buhari as PUNCH tagged him, has shown no regard and extreme disdain for the Rule of Law in Nigeria.
“but it is only a pattern, a reflection of the serial disregard of the Buhari regime for human rights and its battering of other arms of government and our democratic institutions”, PUNCH wrote.

The unlawful detention, the continuous flaunting of Court orders, and the unremorseful, unjustifiable rearrest of Omoyele Sowore have brought to light what PUNCH has called “an autocratic military-style regime run by Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).”
Omoyele Sowore is not the only citizen who has been victimized by the Buhari regime as highlighted by PUNCH. Ibrahim El-Zakzakky and his wife have spent over 3 years in custody despite court orders releasing them, while Sambo Dasuki, former National Security Adviser have also been condemned to the same fate since 2015.
