After several warnings given by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to some oil marketers to revert to the approved pump price of petroleum products, the Department has issued what could be regarded as a last warning.
The latest warning was given by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of DPR, Mrs Dorothy Bassey, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
She said the department would start to enforce disciplinary measures geared towards ensuring that the oil marketers comply with the approved pump price of N86 for stations owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and N86.50 for stations owned by the independent marketers.
Bassey said the department had already directed its 24-hour monitoring group to carry out surveillance on the stations that were selling above the approved prices.
She stated that the department would start to deploy stringent punishments against defaulting stations.
Part of the measures she said would be adopted included sealing the stations and fining them appropriately.
Also she said when this does not work, the department would withdraw the operating licenses of the stations.
