Following reports that the new acting Commissioner of Lagos Edgal Imohimi has been demoted to the role of Deputy Commissioner of Police via a letter after a meeting of the Police Service Commission, the chairman, Mike Okiro has said this is not the case.
Okiro stated that the letter was not authorised and should, therefore, be ignored as it was without any legality.
According to the PUNCH newspaper, a telephone conversation with Okiro cleared things up. He said while being interviewed; “The letter was not authorised by the commission; Istifanus (commission’s Permanent Secretary) did not write on my behalf. I read the letter too like everybody and I have told the IG to ignore it. The letter was not authorised at all. I will meet with Istifanus about it and find out how the letter came about.”
Another commissioner with the PSC also denied any knowledge of the letter saying that the demotion of Imohimi was not on the agenda.
According to the PUNCH, a source said; “I remember vividly what happened at the meeting; the issue was not discussed, so the content of the letter was not our decision.”
The commission added that there was no outstanding disciplinary matter out on Imohimi that would even warrant his demotion.
