A university professor has been sentenced to 12 years behind bars by a court in South Korea for forcing one of his students to eat human faeces and drink urine.
The court while delivering its judgment on Thursday said the 52-year-old professor who was identified simply as Jang “trampled on his victim’s human dignity”.
The court heard how the abuse started when the victim got hired as an assistant to work for Jang at a non-profit organisation.
The student of design, who is now 29, was repeatedly abused by the professor and several other students who were once said to have attacked the victim with a baseball bat.
Also, the victim was once assaulted with a plastic bag tied over his head and forced to eat human excreta.
Jang’s accomplices, numbering about 3, were handed sentences ranging from three to six years.
The matter was eventually brought to the fore when the victim attempted to commit suicide to escape the situation, telling the court later that he stayed on the abusive job because he hoped the professor would help him secure a full-time job as a college professor.
