Some prisoners who could not believe their luck escaped on Wednesday after a Nigerian Prisons Service vehicle conveying them to court collided with a stationery vehicle in the Badagry area of Lagos.
According to reports, the accident which occurred at the Beyuf bus stop on the Badagry Expressway saw many of the prisoners sustaining various degrees of injuries.
However, the injuries notwithstanding, some of them saw the accident as an opportunity for them to escape and they seized it.
An official of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) who spoke to the The Nation said the accident was caused by the inability of the NPS vehicle driver to see the stationery vehicle on time as the light of the van was not bright.
The accident occurred around 7am, witnesses said.
While efforts are being made to recapture the fugitives, the injured prisoners have been taken to hospital for treatment, a prisons official said.
