Presidential debate: Candidates pledge peace, prosperity

Eight Presidential Candidates, on Saturday, participated in the Nigeria Youth Decide (NYD) presidential debate, promising to engender peace, fight corruption and reposition the economy.

Participants at the debate were Tope Fasua of Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP), Yusuf Sani of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), and Esosa Ize-Iyamu of the Better Nigeria People’s Party (BNPP).

Others were Ayo Dasilva of Save Nigeria Congress (SNC), Ali Soyode of Yes Electorate Solidarity (YES), John Dara of the Alliance for Social Democrats (ASD), Davidson Akimien of Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), and Johnson Edosomwan of Nigeria Democratic Congress Party (NDCP).

The candidates promised to eradicate poverty and insecurity, diversify the economy and create jobs.

The candidates also said that peace and security were crucial to engendering prosperity in the country.

Tope Fasua promised to grow the Nigerian economy at double digits and ensure that the country moved from a mono economy to a diversified economy, while John Dara promised to use his public sector experience to move the nation out of poverty.

Earlier, the NYD president, Mr Ekpere Paul, said that the reason for the debate was to influence the choice of the desired president for Nigeria.

“Our mission is to positively influence the choice that will bring about election of our desired president that we have been waiting for our country.

” The president that will work with other leaders to build Nigeria to become the most desirable country in the world by 2025.

“We also aim to promote the desires and ambitions of the Nigerian youth regarding leadership, ” he said.
